Akhisar City Square
In the physical and social layers of a city, some events may occur that will affect the continuity of urban memory. These situations can be both natural circumstances such as earthquakes and floods, as well as situations with economic or political foundations such as migration, which can disrupt the formation and continuity of memory. While tracing Akhisar’s urban memory, we found the discontinuities to be multi-layered in which the state of discontinuity is integrated with the worn texture of the city. In fact, the multi-layeredness of the city, especially in the eastern parts of the city, compresses the city into urban environments that we can dee ‘worn out’. Since the state of wear provides a lot of data about the city, it has become an input in the formation of the design method. Design creates its own discourse and ensures its continuity by making the whole city life read new through layers within the existing discontinuity. As a method, it follows the clues of discontinuity in the city and redefines the continuity by reconnecting them.
